Default Fax is not using Call Card Dialing Rules

Why are the Dialing rules being ignored?
I am using an administrator account under windows Xp Pro.
Calling card is properly setup & Use Dialing Rules
is checked in the Send Fax Wizzard.
Fax dials call without first using calling card info.
Call is within my Area code, but I must still use
a calling card to dial this call.

Default dialing rules

I'm having this same problem, and the reply below wasn't
of any help. My dialing rules are not used no matter
what I do. I've made sure the recipient phone number is
in canonical form, specified my area code in the
telephony configuration, etc. I even checked to make
sure the Fax Server dependencies (PnP, PrintSpool, RPC
and Telephony) are all running as LocalSystem, because I
saw a note in XP Help to the effect that dialing rules
might not be recognized if the Fax Server login was
different than the Telephony login.

There aren't any error messages, Fax just ignores my
calling card and tries to dial direct. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Marc

In the Dialing Rules dialog select your country name and
enter your area
code. In the dialing rules box you can also add any
number which you may
need to add before you dial an external number or code
you may need to make
long distance calls.
Now while sending faxes in the Send Fax Wizard do the
following:-
1) Check the check box "Use dialing rules"
2) Select the appropriate dialing rule you want to use
3) Enter the Recipient's area code in the text box next
to "Fax Number"
followed by the number you want to send fax to in the
adjacent text box.

I hope this helps.

If your Calling card settings are part of the per-user settings, you are out
of luck with Windows XP Fax. The XP Fax Service can only run under the

Default dialing rules

Yes, I saw the following under "dialing rules" in the Fax
Console Help:

"Cause: Calling card information is defined per user.
The Fax service is not running under the same user
account as the calling card information.

"Solution: Right-click My Computer, click Manage, click
Services and Applications, and then in the services list,
double-click Fax. Click the Log On tab, and set the Fax
service to run under the calling card user account."

Your phrase "out of luck" seems a lot more helpful than
the above, which led me to try starting the Fax service
under all sorts of user accounts (only LocalSystem
works). I did check that the Telephony service (along
with fax's other dependencies) are all running as
LocalSystem, so I figured the calling card info was under
the same account anyway. Guess not.

So, are you saying fax just plain can't work with calling
card dialing in Windows XP? Or is there some way to set
up the calling card info under LocalSystem?

Thanks,

Marc

Default dialing rules

If I'm explaining this to you, then we're really in the
soup.

For any other poor souls out there trying to make fax
calls on a calling card in XP, here's the only way I
found to do it: prepend the calling card access number,
account number, pin, etc. to the recipient's fax number,
separating the fields with 2 or 3 commas, to represent
pauses in the dialing sequence.
